They want your blood or your blood sweat and tears. The only problem is that when they ask for that level of commitment you begin to feel like an underpaid mercenary or hit man who's life is in danger if they you don't get the job done. You feel trapped. You feel resentful. You feel deceived or intentionally lied to. Then, you start to sit back and ask yourself questions like; what have I gotten myself into, did we talk about this in the interview, and how do I get myself out of this situation ? Should you ask for a raise?
Unfortunately, like any bad relationship, communication is key. The other problem is that whether it is in the interview or during the regular work day some employers will never tell employees or potential employees the truth about their jobs and the expectations.
Now that you have discovered that your boss is beginning to resemble your soon to be forgotten ex, what do you do? What are you prepared to do? What are you willing to do?
There are no easy answers. You must explore all of your options before doing anything.
