In business or in life there is always someone giving information and someone receiving information. The person that is giving the information is concerned that the information is being received the way that they intended. The receiver always wants to have a clear understanding of what is being communicated.
Knowing that, as a boss, owner, or manager you always want to evaluate your methods of communication. Try new ways to communicate. Check for understanding and possibly a read back of what their level of understanding is.
If you are a salesman, teacher, trainer, or so on, you want to make sure that your audience "gets it". If they don't or if that is not your concern then , why waste the time communicating.
Funny story:
One day, I stopped by a new karate school to meet the teacher. His place was still under construction. There was a family there talking to him when I came in. The parents were unsure about registering the kid for classes and left it up to the child. In the mean time, the instructor did a private class for the kid. At the very end he asked the little girl if she wanted a uniform. She had fun in the class so he thought that she would definitely sign up. She responded by saying "Yes". The instructor ran over to find her uniform. He took it out of the wrapper to show her the uniform. She showed absolutely no interest in it. He had a puzzled look on his faced and asked her if she wanted the uniform ? She bunched up her face and shouted "No"! She screamed at him, "you said that I could have a unicorn!" Needless to say that she did not sign up and left upset. He was frustrated and the parents were laughing. The left and said that they would come back some other time.
Just remember, it's all about communication!
